Overview of the Research
Refining margins run this business. Global demand has improved margins. Strong growth in emerging markets was the story of 2010. The recovery last year is continuing into 2011. Strong global demand, especially in emerging markets is creating better margins. This year, light sweet crude is the marginal feedstock. With OPEC increasing production of sour crude oils, and Latin America producing more, this could continue into the near future. Understanding the use of diversification needs to be highlighted at each point when a competitor tries to pin down your efforts, or brings in a novel concept or technique to crush down your efforts.
