Abstract

The objective of this research paper is to discuss the Gun Control. Every day millions of people suffer due to the consequences of a direct and indirect irresponsible arms trade. Arms control in the broadest sense began in colonial America. Even private arms are considered ultimately under the control of the State for the maintenance of collective security. Gun culture is deeply ingrained in the USA and the pro-gun lobby is particularly powerful. As a consequence, gun-control is an emotive political issue and under the Clinton administration, a concerted attempt was made to tighten the gun laws. Control has also been applied on types of weapons whose destructiveness is indiscriminate, as in the case of mines, biological weapons, or chemical weapons.

Introduction

The objective of this research paper is to discuss the Gun Control. Gun control has existed in varying degrees throughout the history of civilization. In many cases, restrictions on civilian ownership of weapons have been used to control potential uprisings of the oppressed classes. In the twelfth century sought to ban the use of crossbows, because its management did not need much training, which caused a person with little education in war could kill a knight. Today, Japan is one of the most restrictive gun control in the population, and the United States is one of the least (Kopel, 1995).

Background of Gun Control

Gun control has also applied in peace agreements to maintain military supremacy over the defeated countries: they were among other occasions after the First World War in the Treaty of Versailles, which was banned in Germany the manufacture of certain types of weapons , and after the Second World War both Germany and to Japan.

To be effective, decisive action to fight against WMD requires strategies that go beyond international institutions and political and diplomatic negotiations. The active participation of other departments is also essential. The proliferation of WMD poses a collective threat that extends worldwide, so it is through collective action that extends globally the need to respond. Control regimes exports were as strong as their weakest link, but it is equally true that the power of the tribunes of multilateral negotiations is measured in terms of the commitment of the participating States (Utter, 2000).

Concept of Gun Control
