Defend or refute the following statement

I will defend the statement that graduate studies are merely an extension of the baccalaureate educational experience. According to research it has been found that a substantial 40 percent noted that their desire to teach at the college or university level was a very important part of their re ason for going to graduate school, but fully 29 percent said that wanting to teach was not very or not at all important. In chemistry and microbiology, the responses to the teaching item were split nearly evenly among “very,” “somewhat,” and “not very/not at all” important, but in sociology just over half said that wanting to teach was a very important factor. (Bisesi, 2007) Such a difference probably reflects varying opportunities for scientists and social scientists to pursue research or teaching careers. Graduate school admission requirements must be met by all applicants. However, as with some professional degree programs administered through the Graduate School, relevant non-academic experience may constitute additional evidence of admissibility. Such criteria must be explicit in the application for program approval.

Graduate school is an important step for many people since it requires a huge commitment of time, tuition dollars, and personal energy. Graduate school can adversely affect work, family, and social life. Hence, a number of people are unable to finish as the commitment becomes too big to incorporate into the rest of their lives.
