The term “Goiter” refers to the enlargement of the thyroid gland. The principal function of the thyroid is to produce the hormones thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3), which regulate growth and metabolism in the body. Calcitonin is an additional hormone produced by the thyroid that helps regulate calcium levels in the blood (Leslie, 2003).
