Introduction

George Washington was the first President of the United States and the Commander of U.S. forces in the War of Independence of the United States. He was born in Westmoreland County, Virginia on 22nd February, 1737. Washington was a brave man who grew up to be a great military leader, because of his bravery and leadership abilities, he is known as “the father of our nation”. This paper discusses and highlights and achievements in the life of Washington as Military Commander

Background

George Washington was commander in chief of American forces in the War of American Independence and the first president of that country. He was born on February 22, 1732 and died on December 14, 1799 and was known as the Father of the American nation. He was a wealthy landowner who acquired his southern military training when he was a member of the British colonial army and fought in the French and Indian War. In the interwar period Washington married Martha Dandridge Custis. During this period they moved to Mount Vernon where the future president was devoted to the cultivation of their land and political life.

Beginning of the New Era

From the beginning of misunderstanding between England and the colonies of America, Washington declared himself earnestly for the resistance to tax claims of the metropolis. Representatives in the Convention of Virginia (1774), he began resolutely to the lead, and has to resort to arms. Congress unanimously elected him commander in chief of the army which was to form the colonies to fight for independence, although not a radical independence, it seemed appropriate to the post by his military experience.

The campaign began badly. Defeated in New York, he retreated in good order and managed to defeat the English army. His troops being very undisciplined, he was given full authority by Congress. Immediately, he won in quick succession two brilliant victories at Trenton and Princeton. These victories attract more attention of Europe on America, and everywhere it occurs for a wave of sympathy. Lafayette , mandated by a concern to counter France wherever she may the power of England, comes to offer his services . But the English had taken their final revenge on Brandyvine Creek, and Howe entered Philadelphia, George Washington, after having retreated, came to the block.
