There are people under him who call the man a reptile and there are those who call him a mammal. The different shades of his personality are what make the man most famous and also controversial. The paper discusses the controversial leadership style of the maestro in the field of management, his disagreements with Reggie Jackson, and the implications of his leadership style for managers and leaders in hospitality and tourism industry. In addition, it highlights my learning from the leader and influence on my personal leadership style.
Other than his leadership style, Steinbrenner also has a reputation for feuds. He was but a human and he also made some mistakes. Some of the philosophies of the man were disagreed upon by the other Yankees such as Babe Ruth, Joe DiMaggio, Yogi Berra, Joe DiMaggio and Lou Gehrig. Introduction
The name of George Steinbrenner is very famous among the Yankee fans. He was the owner of the major baseball league New York Yankees for 37 long years until he bid adieu to his earthly existence. Under the leadership of a man who was both loved and hated, the New York Yankees earned 11 pennants and 7 World Series. He had a flair for baseball. However, as a consequence of his involvement in a financial statement he was barred from the game back in the year 1990 (Dent, 2001).
Steinbrenner was a true entrepreneur in every sense of the word. He was too passionate for sports to not have his own league. He bought the Yankees in the year 1973 for $10 million. He bought it from CBS along with a group of investors (Zimbalist, 2003). Steinbrenner was visionary. He realized that the franchise had a lot of potential through it was struggling at the time. The same enterprise then converted to worth a billion dollar under his leadership. The life of the man is a leadership model for managers across different fields to follow. Being the boss may come with perks but it is also accompanied with a lot of responsibility.
