Introduction

The Genomic and Genetic scientific advances can be defined as the understanding of illness and health, which necessitates the concomitant shifting in graduating practice and education. Thus, the major objective of this project is to highlight the important genomic and genetic competencies for all the individuals who are prepared for graduate level in the field of nursing. All these competencies can apply to anyone who is functioning at the graduate level in nursing, which includes not limiting (APRN's) i.e. advanced practices registered nurses, nurse administrators, nurse scientists and clinical nurse leaders. However, these particular competencies complement the standards of practices and existing nursing competencies, thus it incorporates genomic and genetics into all non-clinical and clinical nursing roles (Johnson, Williams & Spruill, 2010).

Moreover, the development of genomic technology and information continues its merger into transforming how healthcare services are delivered and defined and also the fabric of healthcare.

Discussion and Analysis

Various common health issues and conditions are being identified as having a genomic or genetic component, and growing evidence supports that these multi-factorial condition results from interactions of multiple environmental, lifestyle and multiple genes, and other remaining factors. It is a fact that there are hundreds of genetic tests are currently available that can help in identifying individuals that carries one or more gene mutation that links with an enhance risk for developing the common health conditions. Thus, the increasing availability for consumer access and genetic testing to this test for over the internet are keeping away the genetic testing form the trained genetics health professional and in the hands for primary care consumers and providers (Glass, Nicol & Williams, 2009).

Purpose and Applicability

The project needs to identify the necessary genomic and genetic competency for all the individuals that are actually ready for nursing at the graduate level. All these competencies can apply for anyone that functions at the nursing graduate level, involving but does not limiting nurse education, nurse scientists and nurse administrators.

The primary purpose for this project is to identify the impact of genetic competence on obstetrical nursing. It needs is to define the essential genomic and genetic competencies for all the registered nurses. I as an administrator of the OB hospital unit need to train the nurses for these competencies in order to recreate or replace the existing standards of practice for incorporating the genetic and genomic perspective into all standards of nursing.

However, regarding the treatment of genetic information in medical practice, the keyword is genetic counseling (genetic counseling). In the "Guidelines for the proper handling of personal information in corporate healthcare / nursing" issued by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, there is a section on "Treatment of genetic information when used in medical practice." It was noted that genetic testing should be performed as part of genetic counseling.
