America is the home of brave and the land of the free. Is it really? A male citizen, tax-paying and a law abiding, want to marry a man. He cannot. The State will not allow him to. Is it wrong to allow homosexuals to get married? If so, what is the basis for this bias? The ethical or moral dilemma is that our society does not recognize same sex marriages out of personal bias. Parts of our society only recognize marriage between one man and one woman, conjoined by law. Is it ethically and morally acceptable to restrict homosexuals from the happiness they deserve? In order for the same sex marriage to be recognized, laws and personal views must change. Any legislation in which same-sex marriages are prohibited is indeed discriminatory. Refuting homosexuals to form a bond of marriage terminates equality freedom of sign, flexibility of religion, provisions present in the vessel for hire of freedoms and privileges. Homosexual couples should not be discriminated as love for their partner is no different from that of heterosexual couples. These minorities have faced a lot of discriminations at school, in their professional lives and in their social lives. Verbal as well as physical abuses have been universal around them. In 1988, Rebecca Wight, a twenty eight years old woman was murdered just because she was lesbian (Gregory, 1992). This is a topic of freedom, security and equality. If gays are rejected the rudimentary human right of marriage, one should inquire the question: where does humanity stand today? Adults as well as teenagers must also change the misconception or stereotyping of the gay community. Equality means the same rights for all people; therefore, homosexuals should be treated as equal in our society. The moral and ethical issues that arise out of the bias that homosexual human beings face on a daily basis prove that targeting gays is morally and ethically wrong. Many homosexual individuals have to face day to day discrimination and are not provided with the basic human rights because of their sexual orientation. Supporting these biases, many states have suppressed these homosexual individuals of their right to pursue happiness contrary to heterosexual populations. This has led to prejudices in employment, in housing, government welfare benefits including financial security and health care; consequentially, those affected suffer from higher stress rates, substance abuse, depression, verbal, physical, and sexual abuse while exposing them to greater sexual and mental health risks that can ultimately result in suicides. In addition, studies have been performed that prove children grow to be great additions to society even when raised by same sex couples, which further proves that this bias against gay marriage is morally and ethically incorrect - further providing that same sex marriage is not erroneous. At what point does this prejudice end, and same sex couples begin to enjoy their lives and not live in fear?
