Introduction

The gag reflex happens when something touches the back of your throat on your soft palate and prevents a foreign object from going into your throat. This reflex's sole purpose is to avert you from choking. If you don't have this gag reflex, you can actually have some serious issues in the incorrect situation. (Purves, 2004)
