ABSTRACT
Little is currently understood about the work environment of senior nurses and how it impacts their job satisfaction Nurses' job dissatisfaction has been linked to absenteeism, job stress, unhappy work environment, retention issues, increased healthcare costs, and ultimately diminished client outcomes. Evidence suggests UK is nearing a critical shortage of nurses (Murphy, et al., 2009). We are not recruiting nor retaining the number of nurses required for the future healthcare needs of UK. The aim of this study is to suggest ways through which professional security and job satisfaction of nurses can be improved. Chapter 3 reviewed the literature related to reflection and the use of reflection to improve professional security and job satisfaction of nurses. Purposeful sampling was used to obtain the participants in this study in UK. Participants were recruited by the researcher as required. Five participants were chosen for the research. Participants were contacted by the researcher to schedule appointments for their interview. The primary sources of data collection for this study included an unstructured interview and field notes to describe the setting and context of the interview. The study identified research on the effect of physical environment on worker outcomes in healthcare settings a priority. The importance of this research is due to the fact that the U.K. in the midst of one of the largest health care construction programs in its history and limited research evidence hinders the building of a new generation of hospitals that can enhance worker outcomes.

CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION
Background of the Study
Little is currently understood about the work environment of senior nurses and how it impacts their job satisfaction (Armstrong-Stassen & Cameron, 2005; Best & Thurston, 2006; Underwood, et al., 2010). Nurses' job dissatisfaction has been linked to absenteeism, job stress, unhappy work environment, retention issues, increased healthcare costs, and ultimately diminished client outcomes (Duffield & Catling-Paull, 2009; Tullai-McGuinness, 2008). The healthcare nurse's client may be an individual, a family, or an entire population (Hogan, 2008). Although recent studies have improved understanding of nurse's roles, researchers recommend further examination of this healthcare sector to ensure UK ...
