Introduction

Access Alliance Multicultural Health and Community Services provides accessible, community-governed, inter-professional, primary health care services, including health promotion, illness prevention and treatment, chronic disease management, and individual and community capacity building (accessalliance.com, 2011). It is a nonprofit and non government organization working for the health and cultural integration thousands of new comers coming from around the world to the neighborhood of Toronto. Their client portfolio consists of people who have migrated from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Portugal, Colombia, Iran, Mexico, Thailand, Somalia. During the last year 2010-11, the organization served approx 2500 clients out of which 8% refugees claimants served, 659 government assisted refugees served, and registered 1000 new clients. The organization also remained very active through the year. It paid 3850 visits to Resource Center for Newcomers. The organization expanded its location to include more touch points with their client. This year, they opened access point on Jane Location. In February, it led the Right to Health Coalition campaign to demand the elimination of the three month OHIP wait period imposed on newcomers. In March 2008, Among Friends Initiatives released its 'You are Among Friends” booklet- a resource for and by members of the Lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and queer (LGBTQ) new comer communities. Beginning initially from the scrap, they are now known as leader in the nonprofit sector of Toronto.

In upcoming discussion, we will see how funding can be challenging for organizations like Access Alliance. In this regard, we also talked to Mr. Ramiro Mora who has extensive experience in fundraising in nonprofit organizations, and currently a registered member of Access Alliance. Besides interviewing him, the discussion followed will also reflect some of the news currently prevailing in the country about the challenges faced by non government organizations present in the country.

Fundraisings

Like any other nonprofit organization, its operation depends upon the funding of the sponsoring companies and government grants. The organization has two main sources for financing various projects and services; one is donations, and other is funding. Donations are usually independent of any conditions and may be allocated to any of the services which the organization is offering. While, funding is granted for an event and project.

Donors of Access Alliance includes Ben and Hilda Katz, Board and staff members at Access Alliance, CIBC, F.K. Morrow Foundation, IBM Employees' Charitable Fund, Multi-Languages Corporation, Scotia Bank..

Comparing to list of donors', list of funders is long.
