Functionalist Perspective on School Girl Attack

The purpose of this study is to expand the boundaries of our knowledge by exploring some relevant facts and figures related to Functionalist Perspective. Research is a primary component of sociology. For example, according to Functionalist Perspective, the specific conduct of a person may be treated as individual behavior towards another person as a hostile or friendly. Depending on the interpretation of this behavior, and thus on the adopted definition of the situation, the subsequent reaction of the unit will function in a different way. Another example of this approach is that of theory of subculture, the group recognizes the different values and norms, which means that the behavior of members is perceived and influenced by the social environment. The last example of this type of analysis is the functional theory of stratification. According to this theory, the origin and persistence of social stratification is considered in terms of its contribution to human society.

In Afghanistan, there has been an increase in attacks on women, especially students and teachers. Most of these life threatening attacks are executed by Taliban to restrict women in their houses. Recently, a toxic spill on five school girls is just an example of what Taliban intends to do. During the reign of the Taliban, before 2001, women were not only not allowed to learn, but work and leave the house alone. Meanwhile, in 2010, 30 percent learners were women. Still, quite often leads to attacks on students, teachers and schools, especially in more conservative parts of Afghanistan where the Taliban are widely supported by the population. Functionalists theoretical clarify the involvement to social stability in Afghanistan (Berberoglu, 2011)
