Introduction
Nature as well as nurture both of these elements is major and very important contributors to the development and progress of the behavior of the monster. On the other hand, Shelley has used the theory of Rousseau which is based on the natural man, and who is also born good and free but then he is corrupted by the society, so as to prove that nurture is one of the basic and foremost leading factor that forms or mould the behavior of any creature. The following paper depicts the comparison between the two in Frankenstein's novel.
Discussion
A very simple and easy example of the creature or the monster being free and plain is when the creature itself explains to others that before entering in the society, he used to act sleep and eat just like an animal. It used to eat nuts and berries, sleep in the wood and drink from the brook (Carr, 2010). By the means of these actions, the creature is actually responding to its basic and natural needs for shelter and food. Once, the creature witnessed a rich family being thrown into poverty. That family then taught the creature to speak to write and read and most important of all, they taught it how to have an intelligent thought (Carr, 2010).
The creature learned to do all this only due to the nurture which he had received from that family. For instance, whenever the creature sees the elderly and blind father of the family giving comfort to his daughter, the creature used to experience a mixture of pleasure as well as pain such that it has never experienced before (Carr, 2010).
