INTRODUCTION

For years, a controversy has been brewing over the amount of junk food and soft drinks being sold through vending machines in local schools. Schools benefit from revenue-sharing arrangements, but many parents and healthy experts are concerned about the negative effects of these snacks and beverages. The Juice Bar, Inc. will set up portable juice bars on school campuses offering a variety of healthy fruit and vegetable drinks along with healthy snacks. These portable juice bars have been used and perfected at local malls and on street corners in downtown Austin (O'Neil, p.231). These juice bars can easily be cleaned and stowed away when not in use. They are powered by outlet or use a backup generator so all products remain fresh. These portable juice bars have passed the stringent health codes for Austin vendors. It is also possible to be managed by one person. These portable juice bars are easy to move around, so they can be used for concessions at football games, basketball games, soccer games, school plays, and school recitals.

SUMMARY AND SCOPE OF PROJECT:

The Juice Bar, Inc. would also provide job training to students. This would be part-time work during athletic events or concessions at other school functions. When a student is working we will make sure to have a full-time employee with experience is working to provide proper supervision.

This information is already provided on our website along with a sample menu that includes Sweet Lemonade, Strawberry Lemonade, and fruit smoothies blended with apple, cranberry, soy, or yogurt, as well as, trail mix, fruit, and baked tortilla chips. The menu will vary depending on what fruit and vegetables are in season (O'Neil, p.231).

To assure the juices and food meet with the approval of the school district, we would establish an advisory board composed of parents, students, and at least one certified health professional. They would meet twice a month, more if necessary, and go over what the worries the students or parents have, any questions they may have, or any clarification the students and parents need, as well as, letting the students and parents have a say in what is being offered at the juice bar (O'Neil, p.231).

It is important to us to support the local farmers and vendors in and around Austin so we use as many local farmers and vendors as we can. For example, we get our juices and honey sweetener from Goodflow Juice, our yogurt from White Mountain, sugar cane from the Randolph McGregor farm. The close relationships we have with these vendors provides us with an opportunity to test market new products at our stands, of course, only after it has been approved by ...
