Introduction

The project work on the emotional based learning has helped to produce a set of interesting findings in individuals suffering from schizophrenia. The learning of schizophrenia was founded on the idea that an individual can learn about the emotional consequences of any actions. My project has demonstrated the negative symptoms of schizophrenia and how people with schizophrenia can be treated by using anti psychotic drugs. My learning style will be examined by means of this assignment. My clinical placement project and rationale behind my choice will be focused in this piece of writing. It will also provide an overview of schizophrenia and learning in the clinical context, considering theory and practice. Schizophrenia is one of the most severe psychiatric disorders to understand its severity it is important to explore the causes and different treatments of schizophrenia which will be helpful for me to deal with the patients with the negative symptoms of schizophrenia (Patel, Pinals & Breier, 2008, n.d.).

Quinn suggested in 1995 that the learning which is gained by the placement experience is very relevant and meaning full than which is gained in a lecture room (Quinn, 1995, n.d.). In writing of people such as Malcolm Knowles, Carl Rogers and David Kolb there is a support for this argument.

Discussion

As a student when I was in placement at an acute mental health ward for adults, I became very intrigued in the topic. I was given a chance to talk to the patients who were diagnosed with schizophrenia. There was a very young man in my ward named Jacob who was my very first patient. Throughout the session with him I felt a lot more comfortable when I was talking to him about hallucinations. When he held a family meeting in which he was planning to get discharged I thought that he was accepting his schizophrenia and would obviously use his intellect while managing his disorder and he would move forward in his life. After his discharge when I got to know that he stabbed himself with a knife I was very devastated and distressed by his outcome. It made me clear that for the rest of my career psychiatry will be my passion and I will help people to get over the negative symptoms.

As per Michael foster greens book (2001) the schizophrenia was revealed, the major symptoms of schizophrenia was characterized into two categories , Negative and positive symptoms. The information within this book was quiet relevant (Green M. F, 2000, pp200). Controversies still exist for finding out the real cause of the disease with some of the scientist claiming that either the environment or the genes are some of the possible causes while other researchers claim that the chemical and structure reactions in the brain contributes to this illness. The basic aim of the project was to give all the nurses an insight about the possible treatments of this disease and how they can deal with the patients when they impose a negative ...
