The Filament theory of muscle shortening was first proposed around 50 years ago. Before 1953, the most acceptable model of muscle contraction was based on the myosin, protein, contacting in the presence of calcium ions (Anderson 2004, pp.123). Afterwards, Hugh Huxley and Allan Huxley published 2 defining theories of muscle contraction. The role of actin, protein was discovered by Straub (1942) was not explained yet. In the following paragraphs, the types of fibres will be discussed in light of this theory.
