Antonia Maury was an astronomer who was born in New York, USA, in a family with deep scientific roots. She graduated from Vassar in 1887, and two years later she joined the Harvard Observatory as assistant director, Edward Pickering , and that same year discovered that the star Beta Aurigae was a spectroscopic binary. Maury also determined Mitzar period, famous star of Ursa Major, is easily reachable in the sky.
