Feature Article: A short history of the book trade in the Yenisei province in the years 1852-1916.

Book trade played a significant role in raising the cultural level of the Siberian population. Unfortunately, in the history of culture of the region, this question has not been studied. Our essay - this is the first attempt to somehow compile and analyze the accumulated documentary archive material on this important issue. The first bookstore in eastern Siberia was opened in 1852 in Irkutsk. The initiators of its creation were made by members of the newly created Department of the East Siberian Geographical Society. During these years, they wrote: "Taking into consideration that in the whole of Eastern Siberia is not a single bookshop, the department decided to establish in Irkutsk under his direct supervision of stock of books and maps for sale to local residents."
