CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION

Background of the study

At the southwest of Asia in the Arab gulf peninsula United Arab Emirates has build the largest port in the world Jebel Ali Port located in Dubai. The much known city in Emirates is Dubai which has becoming the fast growing business area. Almost every world shipping company sails into its huge ultra modern harbor. Dubai has been known for many years as the most convenient sopping point for all the global traders because the dynamic rules and politically stable. Dubai has dramatically increased its pattern of trading and not just considers an importer but it is becoming one of the major re-exporter in the world. Most of the business men in Dubai have inherited the business dealing very well with beyond the Arab Gulf area. Moreover the government has increases the business level by attracting foreign to help them make money that is free from taxation on incomes, exchange controls on foreign were no exist and fully convertible currency.

Jebel Ali Port

Jebel Ali Port is known as the largest free port in the world. It was built in 1976 but today Jebel Ali Port handles more than two millions containers annually and consists of 67 berths with around ten miles of quays ranking one of the top ten ports in the world and top twenty in container activities and traffic.

Problem Statement

Jebel Ali is the largest man-made harbor in the world and has been inviting commerce by the law flexibility in order to attract business. Numerous factors are contributing towards an increase in Jebel Ali Port productivity. Apart from that, there are certain strategic advantage and disadvantages, which are faced by Jebel Ali Port.

Research aims and objectives

Aims

The aim of the study is to investigate those imminent factors that contribute towards Jebel Ali port's increasing productivity. The study also examines these factors on the quantifiable basis. This study also ascertains how key factors that lead to an increase in the Jebel Ali port's productivity results in the strategic advantage of Jebel Ali port. The study also finds out the disadvantages associated with Jebel Ali port.
