KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING OF THE WORLD

Introduction

Knowledge and Understanding of the World is related to the everyday lives of children, about their surroundings, homes, community and families. Children are provided meaningful experiences with the help of different techniques like social playing, practical activities and experiential learning oppurtunities. This not only encourage children to observe and ask different questions, but also stimulate the senses. Children learn various things, engage themselves with respect to their interests and build up understanding of the beliefs and views of others.

The earling learning stage includes various regions of learning various things and developing positive attributes. Each region has some specific goals and aims. The classification is described below (www.ncma.org.uk):

Development of aspects like personal and social: This area deals with developing and providing a sense by which children can play a positive part to themselves and to others. Also, other sills ans senses are generated like emotional feelings and learning passion.

Effective communication and literacy: It involves developing confidence and skills in order to communicate, speak and listen effectively. This is the start to read and write.

Numeracy skills and problems solvingy: This part includes providing a significant understanding of the concepts of problem-solving and the idea of numbers crunch. Effective trainings are alco conducted to enhance the communication skills with the help of various activities.

Knowledge and understanding of the world: It helps children to learn and make sense of the world, understanding the natural environment with the help of different tools and materials like playing in a social way.

Physical Development: This part ensures that the children understand the importance of healthy diet and life style. Also; coordination skills, control and movement are taught in this region.

Creative development: The area of creative development develops imagination and creativity in the form of art, music, movement, dance, imaginative and role-plays activities.

Discussion

Elinor Goldschmied and Sonia Jackson in their book, People under Three, came up with the activities to explain how the term heuristic provides a structured opportunity to different functions. The concept heuristic is to provide a group of children free to explore a variety of objects, with little adult intervention. This type of operation is particularly useful to encourage young children to engage and participate in the activities for more than a few minutes.

Froebel came up with his world famous works regarding education, some of them which are included in it are Education by development, The education man and Mother plays and nursery songs. The main idea of these books is education among children of below seven years of age. The philosophy of Frobel`s deals with the idealism in abosolute conditions. He chiefly showed two major aspects i.e. the idea of unity in diversity and the throry of development.
