Ethical Autobiography
Leading life in a respectable way it is imperative that we should follow ethical values and conduct ourselves in a morally acceptable way. While deciding what is right and what is wrong I take into consideration my morals, standards, rules and values that are derived from my religion. Moreover, my family is another guidance that helps in find out the difference between right and wrong. Professionally, I rely on codes of conduct and established rules. I see every action, strategy, plan and policy in the light of established rules and culture of the organization. It is only after this course that I begin to take into consideration the outcomes and results of the actions that are taken by the organizations. For instance, whenever any big names in the corporate arena announce the launch of their new product then I do a self evaluation of the consequences both positive and negative that this product may produce (Gordana, 2012). My culture such as my religious values and rules also affect and influence my ethical behavior. My religious values and rules provide me guidance in deciding what is right and what is wrong.
To me conducting in an ethical way is significant. Now, the question is that what constituent ethical behavior. Four examples of ethical behavior are as follows (Parsons and Kimberlee, 2002):
Conducting research and presenting result without any influence and amendments
Informed consent while doing research is another example of ethical behavior
Paying importance and respect to the privacy of patient by a nurse is an ethical behavior
Treating all students equally without any biasness
Now that we have talked about ethical behavior in general following four examples provide examples of ethical behavior in me:
Achieving targets and goals through justified means
Whistle blowing about anything that is illegal
Timely fulfilling obligation
Justified relationships
Professional/Ethical Hero
Admiring someone and consider someone as role model is influential in embracing ways through which success can be achieved and through which higher level of professionalism can be adopted (Bass et al, 1996).
Identification of an Ethical Hero, his Characteristics and Influence
My father acts as my role model and he is also an ethical hero for me. My father has caused a great impact on my values. It is not only his teachings and support that has affected me and the way in which I work but, his conduct and high level of professionalism that he shows also has provided me inspiration. By looking at him I myself have formulated my standards. Following are some of his impressing ethical characteristics (Erin, 2012):
He makes value based selection
He prefers to bring about steady and incremental change rather than sudden and pointless alterations
