Analysis of Ethical Concern - the Usage of Information and Communication Technology



Introduction

Twentieth century has seen many inventions and transformation in technologies. However, rise of the information technology age and the emergence of the internet has been a significant reason in changing our lives drastically. It facilitates and enables us to live our lives with ease, but there are people with negative approaches who tend to exploit things and hamper lives.

I.C.T. is an acronym for Information and Communication technology; however, it can be defined as; Information and Communication Technology is consider for all uses of digital technology that already exist to help individuals, businesses and organizations use information. Products that are known under Information and Communication Technology should be able to store, retrieve, manipulate, transmit or receive information electronically in a digital form (www.tutor2u.net).

Ethical issue

An issue is not an issue till it is made one. However, people who create issues are less than the people who are accepting the technological advancements. An ethical issue for someone may not be an ethical issue for others (Foley, 2002). Therefore, one may go for the right of accepting it.

There have always been ethical problems in the Information and Communication Technology, but during the recent past, they are been taken under consideration, and disciplinary actions are taken against them (Mintz, 2011). Rules and regulations are being defined to differentiate between ethical and fraudulent notes. After the rise of internet technology and transformation in its usage more and more ethics, related problems are seen and study upon. Although, internet security is getting stronger but still we are listening about hacking cases time to time. However, the problems that relate to internet privacy issue are also inclining, and greater cases have come across after the rise in social media trend. Thus, privacy concerns, copyright issues, and censorship also become a concern with added importance (Darlington, 2002).

Recent problem that took place in the information and communication technology world is the case of David Barksdale, a 27-year-old man working in Kirkland for Google as a site reliability engineer. He used information of which he had permission to access in order to harass kids that he met through a technology group in Seattle. On the contrary, Chen declares that Google saves information that we type during our mails or chat. Therefore, the information of kids was kept on Google servers, which Barksdale had, access of, and used it to harass the kids. Google does have privacy settings, which all of, the people are not aware of, therefore, if people use the default setting than their data is kept on Google servers (Kleven, 2010).

Technology is playing an excessive role in generating similar issues in the recent past. It is because of the super storage capacity of the servers, and ability to store a massive amount of information is sustained simply by companies similar to Google.
