The paper discusses the researchers conducted in diabetes. The literature part highlight the major researches conducted on the treatment and diagnose of diabetes employing various research designs, the strengths and weakness of these studies are also discusses along with the recommendations for improvement in future studies. The methodology provides method for the collection of data for literature review and critique over prior searches and the methods used in research journals for carrying out study.
Epidemiology of Diabetes
Introduction
Epidemiology is the study of factors affecting health and illness of populations. This is a discipline that relates to the distribution, frequency and severity of disease states. The study of the distribution and determinants of health events is the basis for the logic of interventions made ??in the interest of public health and preventive medicine (Haris, 2010)
In U.S diabetes is being diagnosed in about 8 million adults, whereas approximately about 90 to 95 percent of which have non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM). Majority of the studies have shown that unfortunately 8 million of the populations have undiagnosed NIDDM (American Academy of Ophthalmology, 1998).
According to a research, around sixty percent of the two million diabetic patients in US usually do not take their medication as prescribed by the doctor. About thirty-three percent people did not comprehend, the purpose of their medicine or they do not know how to use their medicine, and they do not asked their physician. This ignorance from the patients is another barrier. The paper analyzes the research studies conducted on diabetes with respect to the patient's treatment and nurse's contribution in facilitating the treatments.
Aims and Objectives
Describe the principles of diabetes surveillance and the application of epidemiologic methods to chronic disease surveillance.
Describing the development scale of the U.S. diabetes and statistical analysis
What the long term consequences are of poorly controlled Diabetes Mellitus.
Thesis statement
What are the major findings and factors that are the reason for ever increasing diabetic cases among patients?
Background of the Study
Diabetes is the commonest disease that poses great threat to the people. It is estimated that more than 50 percent of individuals, who are diagnosed with diabetes, die due to lack of information about the disease or improper treatment schedules in South-East Asia. In fact, diabetes has had a negative impact on the health of millions of people and is continuing to deteriorate the life style of the sufferers (Gamble, 2010).
Problem Statement
Diabetes is a chronic disease which is common and is increasingly managed in primary care. The three most popular tests for diabetes are l glucose test taken in fasting plasma (the preferred test for diagnosing diabetes type 1 or type 2), plasma glucose test taken at random and the oral glucose tolerance detection (Recommended only for gestational diabetes)There are various systems that have been proposed to manage diabetes care. The goal of diabetes treatment is to keep glucose levels in the blood as normal possible. Level is essential to monitor blood glucose daily (Haffner, 2008). The health service provider may ask to check ...
