For more than 30 years, there have been considerations in relative to the development of the Bakun Dam in the East Malaysian state of Sarawak. If constructed, the dam would be the biggest in South-East Asia. The Bakun Dam: A Case Study shows that developing 2400 megawatts of power, it would supply electrical power for all of Sarawak, and for commerce and towns in mainland Malaysia, through a twisted cord under the South China Sea. At 650 kilometres, this would be by far the longest twisted cord in the world.
