Discussion

John Demos begins the topic referring to an incident that took place in 1651 killing an innocent old man named Henry Stiles. The man killing him was convicted in the court and penalized a certain amount together with a ban on carrying arms. However the death of Stiles remains a matter of concern for everyone and suddenly after three years of this incident a case of witchcraft arose accusing a lady named Lydia Gilbert. The court accused the lady of entertaining Satan and not fearing the God as Satan is the enemy of mankind and God. She is accused that her help has resulted in killing the body of Henry Stiles. The court was wondering if her witchcraft caused the gun of the person kill that old person. The lady was sentenced to death after investigation (John Demos Entertaining Satan).

Demos believe that Lydia Gilbert wasn't the only witch living at Windsor and even she wasn't the last one. Satan was constantly recruiting witches to achieve temporary success against God and mankind by claiming more and more people. He fulfils his evil desires and adds to his nefarious cause by motivating more witches. Weak willed people sign the evil book and enroll themselves because of the temptation of blandishment and bribes, or frightened by threats of torture. These witches are handed over the arms of his power and they oblige themselves to bid for him.

God opposes this evil onslaught; however He also gave permission for it. There was absence of effective sources of chastening for errant men and women. Demon believes that witchcraft has caused many such incidents causing harm to human beings, even the actual harm is much harder to categorize. It is sad to know that event children have been used and they have been victimized as well. The evidence of witchcraft has been seen in both the genders and from all the ages, be it a child, a young girl or boy or, a matured enough man or lady or an old man who has lived his life and enjoyed his time. The young had their fits, older witnesses having other things to complain. The attributes of a witch included injury, illness, and loss of property, strange sounds and sights of omens and portents, curses and muttering (John Demos Entertaining Satan).

It was observes that usually one trial included one witch or a maximum of two. If defendants are found guilty they would get removed forever from the community. She would be sent back however with a clear and straightforward warning that to watch her ...
