The paper intends to extenuate the employment law in North Carolina pertaining to disabled employees and the impact of introduction of new technology for employees who may experience physical limitations or disabilities. As the world has now progressed from agriculture age to the industrial revolution and now to the information technology age, this has brought the technological advancement in every sector as well as it has become the driving force. However, it is seen that technology is not neutral and it has become oppressed with the people with physical limitations or impairments. Therefore, the disabled people have the complex relationship with the technology. However, along with such difficulty, the disabled people also find it difficult to hold an employment in the organization as compared to normal people. The United States has entitled such people to avail the similar employment facility regardless of their limitation through the disability act. US has Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) for preserving the rights of employees with the disability under the US equal employment opportunity commission as well as there are also state wise acts pertaining to the employment rights of disabled people.
Purpose of Study
The primary objective of this paper is to describe the employment laws of disabled people in North Carolina and their legal rights to obtain equal opportunity in the employment.
The paper also discusses that how technology has an immense importance for the disabled employees in the workplace.
The study also intends to highlight the strategy and role of human resource management in dealing with the employees having disability and the approach of HR management in preserving the rights of such people through corresponding employment laws.
Discussion
The paper has been divided into three parts, in which, the first part attempts to comprehensively describe the employment laws of disabled people in North Caroline, however, the second part aims at describing the impact of introduction of new technology for employees who are experiencing the physical limitations. In the last, the third part would highlight the approaches of HR management in dealing with such employees through the implementation of corresponding employment disability act.
North Carolina Disabilities and American Disability Act
The federal as well as state laws are against the discrimination at the workplace especially in case of disabled people. Therefore, both the laws protect the employees with the disabilities from being prey of discrimination in the workplace. However, according to the both laws, the employers must avoid discriminatory behavior at times of making hiring decisions and they must also provide the same rights to the disabled workers to preserve their rights and help them do their jobs regardless of their disability.
