Conversation Analysis between a Patient and Doctor

Patient: Good morning, doctor ! Can you spare me a few minutes?

Doctor: Certianly ! Come in and sit down. Now, what is the matter with you?

Patient: I've caught a cold, and I'm constantly coughing.

Doctor: You aren't running a temperature, are you?

Patient: I suppose I'm not.

Doctor: Let me examine you... Your heart and lungs seems to be all right. Now open your mouth wide... Now breathe in deeply through the nose... There doesn't seem to be anything radically wrong with you. But you are a little run down. Take a complete rest. Get these tablets thrice a day. You should be all right in three or four days.

Patient: Thank you, doctor.

Doctor: Not at all.

Conversation Analysis

Verbal communication is one of the crucial needs of humans along with the other basic needs i.e. food, air and water. There would have been no hue in life if there were no communication. The human commenced to converse using sign language, which developed into the present day communication styles. One question has however been always contested as to whose style of communication is effective- male's or female's?

With diverse social milieu and societal experiences different languages came into existence with different attitudes and customs of communications. The communication witnesses the affect of the gender difference as well. Gender not only has an effect on the style of living, thinking, acting and reacting but it has also proved to play a vital role in the technique of communication of both men and women.

Where male are believed to be physically more powerful and tough, the women are supposed to be delicate and engaging. The same nature of the two is reflective in the resoluteness of the way both communicate. Men are found to be more dominant and women more stylish in their communication. Considering the children, the communication style difference is felt in their communication as well. When the male child wants himself to be noticed he mostly shouts and girls on the other side cry to get the attraction and hence show unintentionally the communication style they hold.

To know the gap of the style of communication of both males and females, one would note that females are much better at non-verbal communication. The women have a very effectual aptitude towards use of the strong body language, using their eyes, hands and facial expressions.

This is done as a far better tool of communication than the spoken one. The males are better at verbal influential approach of communication with a very conscious and compact style. Always containing confidence in what they are saying, helps them converse in a far better way which makes their ideas and the thoughts during the communication more smooth and noteworthy. In our society boys and men are seen as hostile, self-determining and purposeful. The Girls and women are seen as submissive, reliant and subjective.
