In the given scenario of toy manufacturing, manager has identified harmful material for a child is negligibly used in the product. The appropriate and ethical behavior demands the opposition of shipment of products unless they are approved by quality assurance department. In this opposition, the manager has to explain all the ethical concerns and possible harmful consequences for children. The plant manager has to convince the upper management of organization because the approximate cost to reproduce the product and repackage the toy collections is $100,000.

Constructive Discharge

The logic behind not sending the toys shipment is that the ingredients (i.e. Raw Materials) used in toys is not useful for the elementary school kids. It can be very harmful for them. Just for the sake of money, if a company perform such activity its unethical. It violates the social norms and values.

Title VII

Under the Act of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, it is also illegal for an employer to carry out retaliatory actions against any individual for opposing employment practices that are illegal under Title VII or for filing discrimination charge or for testifying or assisting or participate in an investigation, proceeding or hearing under Title VII. Therefore, it is illegal for a company to carryout unethical business activities.

Company Response

The company response towards the decision alternative of implementing Total Quality Management approach should be positive and appreciative. TQM will give the company an advantage of improved quality of products. Although it may also occur some extra cost at the initial level and employees also require training workshops to adjust with the new system of quality assurance.
