Technically, a deficit reduction is a simple matter: one must reduce spending or raise taxes. It is already clear, however, that the deficit reduction program, at least in the U.S., goes further: it is an attempt to undermine the social protection, reduce the progressivity of the tax system and reduce the size the role and size of government - all while leaving established interests, as the military-industrial complex, the least affected as possible.
