Introduction

Church of Haghia Sophia and Islamic Mosque of Selim II Turkey, separated a thousand years ago but it is connected together forever eternally. The Christian church of haghia Sophia represent the achievement of Christian Byzantine Empire, on the other hand it defines the ability of Muslim empire of Ottoman and its architect. Although there have been very few things among both empires, only thing which was common among two empire included region and architecture. In early days the rock dome represented the Islamic empire challenging rivalry newly defeated empire of byzantine and their architectural achievements, including the holy sculptures.

Current haghia Sophia is the outcome of six periods of construction. The initial two periods deployed the basic foundation and structure of building. Thousand years later when ottoman had a control and constantinopole became the part of Istanbul, architect named sinan designed the another complex Suleymaniye for sultan Suleiman, later on the socio religious compound was designed, this compound was given the name of Kulliye, The construction of this compound took more than seven years between 1550-1557, during this construction process the mosques was the point of focus.

Cultural Comparison

The difference was the ideology of Christian and Muslim community as one community was derived from the Arabic whereas the Christian community was derived from the west. On the other hand both religious had different religious practices for offering prayer, this difference of ideology resulted in the difference designing of Islamic Mosque of Selim II Turkey. During the era of Christians it was designed as a church later on when Muslim took over the regime, a Muslim architect named as Sinan designed the building considering the Islamic principles, before that Sinan had created more than four hundred art buildings, he was the royal architect for king Suleiman he took the charge for re-designing the Haghia Sophia building.

Sinan worked on the haghia Sophia and became very familiar with the structure, which had a great influence on his work.
