Introduction
Philosophers have been fascinated about dreams since centuries. It's only recently that empirical research and scientific findings have been made regarding dreams. The images, emotions and thoughts that are encountered during sleep, can be included in dreams. Dreams are often very vivid or vague; they are full of pleasant emotions or terrifying images; focused and comprehensible or blurred and puzzling.
Dreams take place during a stage of sleep; called the rapid eye movement (REM). A person dreams for 2 hours in total, in a normal night, cracked up by the cycle of sleep (S.J. Ellman, 1991).
Dreams seem to have a baffling purpose. However, it is vital to take into account that science still extricates the accurate rationale and purpose of sleep itself.
A few researchers believe that dreams have no valid purpose, while some others suggest that in order to have emotional, mental, and physical comfort, dreaming is necessary. Dreams reduce emotional provocation and also help to cope with traumatic events.
On the other hand, the father of Psychology; Sigmund Freud believes that dreams represent the unconscious thoughts, motivations and desires.

The psychoanalytic Theory of Dreams
According to the psychoanalytic perspective of personality, the drives of aggression and sexuality are repressed in the unconscious and cannot make their way to the conscious awareness. Since these repressed thoughts are not expressed consciously, Freud believed that they seek their way into consciousness through dreams.
Dreams are a disguised way of wish fulfillment. Two different parts of dreams are described as: latent content and manifest content. Manifest content consists of the actual thoughts images, and matter enclosed within the dream, on the other hand, the latent content displays the concealed psychological sense of the dream.
Though, it has not been proven through research that the real significance of a dream is disguised by the manifest content.
The four elements of the process of dream are called the “dream work,” by Freud.
