Introduction

This paper intends to discuss all about domestic violence. Domestic violence is usually seen as physical injury or mental health problems. Domestic violence is depicted in the behavior that is adopted by a partner to control the other one. Domestic violence may take various forms but whichever form is focused, it has long term effects on the victim's physical and mental health. This paper will focus on defining domestic violence, the various identified types and its effects on the victim and society.

Discussion

The term domestic violence basically refers to domestic abuse or family violence. It is defined as the abusive behavior of one partner in a relationship towards the other partner. Domestic violence can take various forms like physical abuse, verbal abuse, controlling, stalking and many others. People usually assume that domestic violence is limited to physical abuse only; however, it is not true. Domestic violence can easily be extended to unlawful imprisonment, harassment, criminal coercion, stalking and all related activities.

Domestic violence is assumed to be the major cause of injuries amongst women of reproductive age and it is also seen as the most important factor for females committing suicides. Statistics show that within every nine seconds, a woman is domestically abused in the United States (www.domesticviolencestatistics.org). The idea of domestic violence begins when one partner wants to control the other one within a relationship. Usually those who become abusers possess low levels of self esteem or they have some sort of inferiority complexes. Moreover, some people misuses the religious concepts in order to make their violence practices legitimized. For example; in several Muslim countries, men believe that they are allowed by their religion to abuse their women if they do not show a trustworthy character, which is essentially not true because Islam does not promote any kind ...
