Introduction

Statement of the Problem

Diversity and multiculturalism emphasizes on cultural diversity and the preservation of unlike cultural uniqueness in identical political structure, and also emphasizes on how close the United States has come towards meeting the standards of diversity and multiculturalism.

Literature Review

Multiculturalism prefers group identity and relies more on a concept of ethnical groupings as comparatively internal homogeneous, bordered, and having separate and natural features. The expression multiculturalism concerns to a viewpoint in which diversity in setting and experience associated to race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, age, religion, disability, education status, and socioeconomic class is familiar.

In United States, description of multiculturalism is given as a communal progress that observes and approves pluralism, or dissimilarities between persons and groups. From a stance of politics, pluralism assures that affirmation and honor is being given to all citizens of society on the basis of basic principles of democracy are honored. Multiculturalism encourages the opinion that different racial and ethnic groups are legitimate and enrich society at all levels of the cultural heritages and experiences. So in a campaign, multiculturalism gives importance of the pride, rights, and variety of individuals. (Campbell, 2009)

Multiculturalism as discussed in this entry refers to policies that support the preservation and egalitarian treatment of intergroup differences and distinct minority and majority group identities within a unified state. People of diverse cultural and linguistic groups have had contact with one another throughout known human history. However, contact now takes place in the context of rapid globalization, involving the movement of hundreds of millions of people around the world and the global expansion of communications, transportation, and trade. A major challenge confronting humankind at local, national, regional, and international levels is how to better manage intergroup contact, as well as cultural diversity. (Brewer, 2007)

The evolution of multiculturalism concerns is from socio-political causes and informative advances.
