Introduction

The Devil's Arithmetic is about a 12 (almost 13) year vintage young female entitled Hannah Stern, who has become exhausted of being obliged to recall about the Holocaust and Passover. Then her family proceeds to her Grandma Belle and Grandpa Will's dwelling for Passover, and she finds herself desiring she were somewhere else. “When she's inquired to open the doorway for the Prophet Elijah to go in, she finds herself conveyed to Poland in 1942 from New York” (Yolen 1990).
