Eric Williams is regarded as "The father of The Nation". He was also the first prime minister of Trinidad and Tobago (Brereton, 1981). He served the country from 1956 to 1981. Trinidad and Tobago became a republic within the Commonwealth in 1976. The level of development and prosperity in the country increases during the years 1972 to 1983 (Zamor, 1977). Trinidad and Tobago profited a great deal from the increase in the oil prices. This helped the country in increasing the standard of living for its citizens.
