Nation's Deteriorating Infrastructure

Introduction

Today the need to develop the infrastructure has risen with an increase in the human needs. Economic downfall that was faced by the United States has greatly affected the logistics and transportation industry in the country. A well-developed infrastructure and a reformed supply-chain system enables the businesses to accommodate resources from different regions that helps them achieve economies of scale, this is a key issue that needs to be addressed immediately. Since industries are greatly dependent on the infrastructure and countries are structurally integrated as resources are supplied from various regions for production and they do not merely sell the finished goods to each other but are made together with combine efforts. However if the economy has a poorly defined infrastructure then that would have a negative impact over the supply-chain integration and therefore will result in a delay in supplying of resources thus making businesses uncompetitive (Jennings, 2011). Although many industries have suffered with the economic downturn however transportation is the one that has been affected the most. Immediate action is required to make improvements in the structure or else the economy would have to risk its future growth. Development in the infrastructure would strengthen the economy by not only eliminating the deteriorating infrastructure but also by creating employment (Blank, 2009).

United States is considered as one of the wealthiest nations in the world; however it has been suffering greatly with the poorly defined infrastructure the challenged that has been faced by America's transportation system today is unlike any other problems that the nation had witnessed in the past years. The problem is not arrange funds for the construction of highways, bridges and roads but the issue is of increasing traffic congestion and the cost of which is escalating every day, it has not only resulted in absorbing motorists time but also have been negatively affecting the environment. The overall performance of the transportation system in the US has been declining (Geddes, 2011).

Along with the traffic congestion, the main problem is the deteriorating infrastructure of the country.
