DECISION MAKING PROCESSES

“The study of project performance information established: decision making processes and impacts on the project achievement accomplishment or failure.”

[Name of the Wrier]

CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION

Background of the Study

The success or the failure of project performance is highly dependant on the information that has been established for the project. There are many layers of information for the project to pass through, in order to achieve its relation to success or failure. This is highly dependant on many factors. One of the important factors is the process of decision making.

The success of any project or organization is dependant on the process of decision making as it an important determinant for the sustainability and the growth of the organization. As the project involves difficult decisions about the best use of their limited resources, therefore these factors are highly influenced by the decisions that are constrained by many factors including economy, budget, and finance, environmental factors, social issues, and local governance problems etc. Implementing an effective program that is highly dependant on the process of decision making is often seen as more complicated and is therefore very difficult to understand and duplicate while executing a project (Pettigrew et al. 2010). The project management is concerned with the ability to measure physical factors, rather than consider more fuzzy variables, such as culture and leadership. The measurable variables are the traditional items to monitor and control, those of cost, schedule, scope and quality.

Consideration and Rationale of the Study

The rationale or consideration of the study is highly dependant on the research problem . The problem might have its origination from different source. It might start from the experience of a researcher and encounter with the problem at different places like home or working place. It might arise from the gap that is the result of a debate that is present on the literature regarding the topic. Sometime, it is the result of policy making from organization or governments government or among top executives (Creswell, 2003).

There is a strong literature that is already present on the success of a project but the impacts of decision making have not been addressed properly. More literature is present on the methods of decision making but there is no interlink between the project performance information established and decision making processes and impacts on the project achievement accomplishment or failure. Therefore, the personal consideration of the researcher for this dissertation is to investigate the factor that can affect the process of decision making for a project in order to ensure the achievement and success. In this study, it has been found that here has a gap in the literature regarding the performance of the project and its relation ship with the process for decision making. In the past, there are many researches and studies carried out for the process project execution practices instead of and initial phases of the project life cycle. Therefore, this study will investigate these factors and its impact on the performance and the achievement of the ...
