Introduction

African-American Storyteller. In 1949, graduated from public school in his hometown, he began university studies in English philology and later in the humanities, which he studied in various centers. He graduated from Howard University and a Ph.D. from Cornell. He was professor of philosophy and literature at the universities of Yale, Howard, Texas and the State University of New York.
