Introduction

Every side and aspect of the society has two faces, good and bad, moral and evil. The activities perused by the inhabitants of the world explicit depict their imbedded morality or immorality. Everyone wishes to perceive this world to be a perfect place to reside in, with no apparent threat from the outer factors of the world. However, this is a highly idealized scenario that most probably no individual witnessed ever since the life on this planet began. Amongst the immoral activities that have been an integral part of this world since the beginning are the crimes that take place in our society in various shapes. It will not be wrong to say that although crimes have always existed in our society, yet ever since the world has progressed and technically developed, so have the shapes of the crimes.

Cyber Crimes

As the term illustrates, cyber crime is a crime that is attributed to the immoral and criminal activities associated with either a network or a computer, or even both. As discussed earlier, as the world has progressed so have the trends of crime, the computer might be a source of investigating and curbing the crime, but at times, it falls victim of the attack. The other category of the cyber crime includes the crime with respect to the usage if internet, known as net crimes. The real dilemma that encompasses the society is with respect to the advancement these crimes have attained in execution and processing. These immoral activities are not confined to individuals, but in some dire circumstances may even threaten the national security.

This age is a computer age, gone are those days when all the records or vital information regarding a person, institute or even country will be manifested and recorded on papers in written form. In this age, almost every major and trivial information, businesses and even monetary assets are held and maintained on a computer or the internet. Therefore, it is quite easy to infer that via these ever increasing cyber crimes pose such high threats at individual, as well as national level (Britz, 2008).

The biggest threat from the cyber crimes other than the data and monetary theft is that of the invasion of privacy, when the criminal tends to acquire the confidential information, in the form of stealing or grasping the confidential information or interception of the other person's cyber activities.

Current Trends in Cyber Crime

Criminal activities in any domain comprise of various activities and trends. However, the cyber crime can be classified in two broad categories; one in which the prime target and the victim, is the computer itself, and the second in which the computer is utilized as a mean in order to execute and formulate the attack further on the network and its respective users in numerous other forms.
