In May, 2011, Gov. Perry signed a mandatory ultrasound bill. The bill stipulates that prior to any abortion; practitioner will perform a certified sonogram. The abortion practitioner or a certified healthcare professional will be responsible for performing a sonogram before administrating any sedative or anesthesia (Harris, pp.3).

Before performing an abortion, the practitioner will give an explanation of the sonogram images of the fetus. The bill states that women will have the right to put these explanations aside. However, it is only possible in case of incest, rape or judicial bypass for a minor.
