Introduction

Cultural Intelligence refers to being effective in all the cultural aspects which include national, generational, ethnic, ideological, organizational dimensions of culture. Culture is subjected to diversity and it has been revealed through various researches that there are four capabilities which generally exist among effective individuals in the diverse culture (Vaccaro, 2012).

Drive - These individuals possess the ability of high level of drive, interest and motivation to cope with the diversity of a cultural system.

Knowledge - These individuals possess the ability to understand well the similarities and differences in a culture.

Strategy - These individuals have the ability to plan according to their cultural understanding.

Action - The individuals possess the ability to make a decision when to adapt to the changes in culture.

Diversity in culture exists all over the world and it is very important for people to adapt to the changes taking place in various cultures. Difficulties are also faced by people to adapt to the changes taking place (Thomas, 2009). A concept of creating safe place has emerged to provide physical and psychological safety to individuals.

Summary of the Selected Video

The video that has been selected to discuss the concept of safe spaces is a part of an Australian mockumentary series which was created by Chris Liley (Angry Boys, 2011). The main purpose of creating this series was to exhibit the key issues that are faced by young males in this century along with their dreams, ambitions, pressures and influences caused by them. There are several characters involved in this series which belong from the same age group but had different ambitions (Angry Boys, 2011). It is shown in this series that what were the influences that arouse the desires and ambitions of young people in this century and what they were willing to do to achieve their objectives.

Safe Spaces

Safe spaces in a culture are created when everyone in a society are allowed to engage in a particular setting. In other words, a safe space refers to creating an environment or atmosphere that allows everyone in the society to be involved accordingly. It is essential to create a safe place in the society for the betterment of the individuals residing (Thomas, 2009).

The need of creating safe spaces arises when individuals face difficulties in adapting to the diversities of the culture. It is very important to avoid unsafe spaces in the society and this can be done by creating safe spaces for the betterment of the individuals (Jalloh, 2000). For instance, if we select to create a safe space for communicating online so that no confusions occur while interacting with other people, one has to focus to create an online space which would most likely include some safety factors (McCarthy, 2007).
