Increasing diversity in the classroom challenges nursing educators to identify issues that complicate teaching, analyze barriers for themselves and their students, and select new strategies for working with nontraditional students. This article identifies concerns arising from attitudes and values within nursing and common approaches to diversity education, and then discusses key issues in nursing education that relate to human nature, culture, faculty workload, and student demographics. Finally, some strategies are proposed for increasing the effectiveness of professional preparation with diverse students through a focus on culturally congruent education and development of faculty cultural competence.

Introduction
These ideas are part of the struggle for the con- construction of the emancipation of nations and have been our path in the countries of Latin American. The exclusion of significant group education cannot of the population is expressed in lack of access, high premature dropout rates, poor quality of the education, inadequate organization of curricula, content and methodology and incorrect process continuing education of teachers. Furthermore, the de- successful political and administrative infrastructure of the authoritarianism schools play in relations with students, families and communities.
Education in our region, besides being marked by exclusion, has been one of the mechanisms we responsible for the social, cultural and economic. The investment of resources in education de- shows inadequate policies in social also have an impact on the health, housing, public transport, leisure and sports (Kaufman, 2006).
Although it is clear to see that nursing supports and embraces the need for cultural diversity in nursing education, Leininger (1995) asserts that, "the major question for nurse educators worldwide is how best to educate nearly 5 million nurses in the world so they will be effective in responding to and providing culturally congruent care". There are many concerns and issues to consider when answering this question.
