Cryptosporidiosis refers to the diarrheal disease caused by a microscopic parasite named Cryptosporidium. This parasite lives in the intestine of the infected person and is excreted through the stool. It has a strong resistant to chlorine and can survive outside the body for a long time. Cryptosporidiosis has become one of the most commonly occurring waterborne diseases across the United States in the past twenty years.
