Cry, the Beloved Country, is a novel by South African writer Alan Paton. The story is planned around two searches. One is a physical search for his son Absalom, by Stephen Kumalo and the second is an emotional and rational search by another character of the novel James Jarvis for the spirit of his son, Arthur.
