This paper presents a critical analysis of two scholarly, empirical articles from the stand points of research ethics, research tools and research paradigms. The two articles selected for the critical analysis are Fashion in Organization Theory: An Empirical Analysis of the Diffusion of Theoretical Concepts, by Suleika Bort and Alfred Kieser; and Dialogues between Academics and Practitioners: The Role of Generative Dialogic Encounters by Nic Beech, Robert MacIntosh and Donald MacLean. The paper would identify the research aims and objectives, hypothesis, research questions, research tools, and would critically analyze the research paradigms, research methodology, and interpretation of ideas, deductions and inferences and research findings of the two mentioned articles.
Article 1: Fashion in Organization Theory: An Empirical Analysis of the Diffusion of Theoretical Concepts
In this article, discussion has been done on whether the theory of organization is predisposed to fashion or not. Frequently, the theories of scientific development claim that the research of scientists is exclusively guided by the requirement for solving problems which are left impenetrable by the available theories. A contrary argument has been made that to some extent, the scientists produce and pursue fashion. Various hypotheses regarding the scientific communication have been formulated and then tested with a sample of forty four ideas which were made available in print and thrashed out in one thousand seven hundred and eighty four articles in the journals of organization studies through the 1960 and 2005. A suggestion has been made that situations like the repute of the outlets and the authors wherein ideas are printed, or the stipulation of a method for the empirical analysis, enhance the allure of the scholastic published works and ultimately get a fashion going. The findings of the research in this article reveal that, fashion is there in communication contained in the studies of organizations, whilst signifying that, the theme is classified by the trends towards economic reasoning and positivistic empirical studies (Nic, et. al, 2011, pp. 1341-1364).
Research Hypothesis
Hypothesis 1 - the rate at which concepts are referred to, which are pioneered in the journals in the upper most tier is greater compared to the rate of referring to concepts, which are pioneered in the journals that hold a lesser reputation.
Hypothesis 2 - the rate at which concepts are referred to is associated to the repute of the authors.
Hypothesis 3 - the reputation of the theory which is the basis of the concept has a productive impact on the dissemination of concepts which are founded on the particular setting.
Hypothesis 4 - the rate at which a concept is referred to, which takes in a method for quantitative, empirical research has an affirmative impact on the rate of referring to concepts.
Hypothesis 5 - the number of articles that refer to the New Institutional Economics must escalate with the passage of time (Nic, et. al, 20111, pp. 1341-1364).
