A late research conducted by Athens Laboratory of Research in Marketing partnered by the Centre of Sustainability revealed that green marketing consumers hold positive attitude toward the products and businesses that are sensitive on environmental matters (Hines, 2000, 78). Nowadays, hotels are increasingly focusing on green management as they contribute to environmental degradation through the construction of buildings, waste disposal, and water usage. Recognizing the seriousness of environmental problems, possibly caused by the excessive use of energy and non renewable natural resources, abundant food supplies and products, production processes harmful to the environment and environmental disasters, more and more people are aware of environmental problems and feel of our natural resources are limited and the environment is more fragile than previously thought increasing numbers of individuals are aware of environmental issues and feel our natural resources are limited and the environment is more fragile than we once believed.
Such environmental awareness instils in the public a positive attitude toward eco-friendly activities, and encourages people to more frequently engage in ecological behaviours in their everyday lives. These individuals have strong environmentally friendly attitudes, look for opportunities to behave in an environmentally friendly ways, and often express environmental concerns.
Discussion
In a study titled 'Policy for Energy Efficiency in Student Housing: Case-Study of the National University of Singapore', the researcher explored how energy efficiency may contribute to green consumption. This study has attempted to analyze the energy efficiency of on-campus housing at the National University of Singapore, with a view to drawing lessons that would be useful for the future energy conservation efforts of the University itself, and other educational institution that provides housing to its stakeholders. The research presents the background and problem in a coherent manner. Climate changes issues and the societal responses to climate change were introduced as a prelude to energy efficiency, which is the topic of this paper. The particular research problem is energy management in student housing at the National University of Singapore.
The research also presents a review of the academic literature on the topic of energy efficiency in the residential sector. Most of the literature is from Europe where awareness for energy conservation is high. Some studies arc discussed and used as a guide for this dissertation.
Also included in the research is exploration in details the current setting of student housing at the University, and provided an overview of current hostel policy (mostly concentrating on the hostel fee scheme). Two alternative policies for hostel fee were introduced with their pros and cons discussed. The study also contains four illustrated the result methodology in details. The three approaches to data collection - interview, experiment, and survey - were demonstrated. Limitations to the research methods were also discussed.
