For this essay I have selected poverty and crime as my topic. To come up with the requirement of this essay, the first stage that I had done was writing process. I used five five prewriting techniques which help me a lot to help to understand the topic and purpose of the writing assignment and limit the topic to a manageable and appropriate idea.

The techniques that I used are: brainstorming, freewriting, diagramming, making a list, and preparing an outline. In brainstorming, you generate ideas for you writing.

In my point of view diagramming was the most helpful one as it made me able to think in a visual way. In this way I could put my idea in a circle or block and branch off examples or other ideas pertaining to it.

To collect information in an organized way I made a list of subtopics which I wanted to cover them in my essay.

I listed as many items I can that have a relation to my topic. My goal was to make details and to gather as much material as possible so I had something to start with when I went to my paper.

The last technique that I had used was preparing an outline. The thesis statement is clearly stated on the outline and a specific outline format is followed. Outlining gave me a sense of organization and allowed me to see quickly if I have enough support for my ideas. After the writer is done prewriting, she moves on to the next step.

The second stage was writing. In the writing phase, I made decisions about developing and organizing my ideas into writing and discover what I knew about the subject. Insights gained from the prewriting phase helped shape ideas into meaning for me and others. I prepared a rough draft, focusing on the purpose of the writing and choosing a suitable form for a specific audience. For that I needed a thesis to work with first.

The third stage that went through was revising. I clarified and refined my writing in thesis stage. After I finished one our more drafts of the essay, I begia revising my paper. In revising reworking the written expression, so that it clearly and actively conveys the ideas, rearranging words or sentences to create and effect, and inserting punctuation and correcting spelling to assist the reader.

At this stage of the writing process, I are interested in clarifying the message by changing words, sentences, or even whole paragraphs. Two examples of revising are editing and proofreading. When I edited my paper, I was looking for mistakes in grammar, mechanics, punctuation, and usage.

While gathering the information for this essay I found about different theories which help us to fond out is there any relation between poverty and crime. Finding these theories was not an easy task and I went through different websites to find them.
