America's revolution against the British was opposed for freedom from high taxation. Lots of Americans didn't approve of the monarchial government of Britain. When the American Revolution finished, America made a new kind of government based on the thoughts of republicanism. This idea focused on the concept that eventual political authority must be vested in the citizens of the nation. Republicanism was a very radical idea because no government in the past had ever attempted or succeeded with the ideas of republicanism. America's first constitution was named the Articles of Confederations plus it was drafted in 1777.

This constitution simply survived for eleven year because the Federalists desired to make stronger the government (Pauline, 1998). In 1788, the new Federal Constitution was signed by all the states except North Carolina as well as Rhode Island. In Document A, James Madison discusses how the "smallest state in the Union ha[d] blockaded every effort to change the government; that little member ha[d] constantly refused plus counteracted the general authority." (Rakove, 1982)The changes suggested by the new constitution just strengthened the preliminary system of government plus proved necessary to the survival of the nation.

The Articles of Confederation didn't boost a strong federal government. Lots of antifederalists did not desire the government to have so much control over America. Improving the articles would need the confirmation of each state legislature. dissimilar the king of Britain, the antifederalists were against one person dominating America plus so they rejected to appoint one single president under the Articles of Confederation. This made a weakness in the government.
