Safer sex includes practices that reduce the risk of becoming infected with STDs, including HIV (the virus that causes AIDS). It also affects in jails to the prisoners as well. These practices reduce contact with body fluids of your partner, including the penis ejaculate (semen), vaginal secretions, blood flow and other open sores. Safer sex reduces the risk but not eliminate it completely. For example, using a condom correctly every time you have vaginal, anal or oral profoundly reduce the risk of transmission, but does not eliminate it completely. Condom use is a crucial element in a comprehensive, effective and sustainable HIV prevention, and promotion should be accelerated. It is estimated that in 2007 some 2.7 million people became infected with HIV. About 45% were aged 15 to 24 years old, and girls were more exposed to infection than boys. The federal government spends tens of thousands of dollars per year to provide condoms to inmates in its prisons. And nearly half of this sum is devoted to Ontario prisons, according to documents obtained through the Law of Access to Information.

Many cases of AIDS in Prison

Free distribution of condoms and discreet in federal prisons began in 1994 after disclosure of the report of a National Expert Committee on AIDS within the detention centers. That committee issued a list of 88 recommendations for federal and provincial correctional authorities. One of those recommendations was to make available easily and discreetly, condoms and lubricants "prisoners without having to ask." (Clark, 1999)

A study released last March by the Correctional Service of Canada reported that 4.6% of federal prisoners were infected with HIV, while 31% had contracted hepatitis C. More than 3,300 prisoners were interviewed in 2007 as part of this study. These rates of HIV and hepatitis C are much higher than in the general population, 15 times more in the case of HIV and 39 times higher for hepatitis C. Disaffection for the psychosocial aspects of the pandemic is similar to the craze for triple that changed his future. She reported that 29 out of 100 prisoners were infected with a sexually transmitted disease (STD), but only three women did not know that condoms prevent HIV, they thought it could be transmitted in dirty toilets.
