Introduction

This essay argues about the article "Testing has raised student's expectations, and progress in learning is evident nationwide," written by Rod Paige. The argument in the article of Paige is evaluated by using outside sources to measure the reliability of an article.

The background of Paige article based on the US act of "No Child Left behind (NCLB)," introduced by the government of George W. Bush in 2001. This act is related to the children's education in public schools.

The aim of NCLB is to provide standard-based restructuring of the education system. The theme of this reform is to improve individuals result in education by set high standards of education, and establish goals that are achievable. The focus of this act is on the development of primary skills of students at certain grade. Moreover, to achieve such performance the Congress increased the federal funding to $54.4 billion and funding attached to NCLB obtained with an increase of 40.4%.

Discussion

Paige wrote the article "Testing Has Raised Students' Expectations and Progress in Learning is Evident Nationwide," this article talks about the act "No Child Left Behind." On the other hand, Weaver argues that NCBL's extreme dependence on testing is impractical, subjective, and quite unfair approach. This paper intends to evaluate whether Paige's argument is realistic or not.

The author begins his article by jogging our memory that we are being tested in numerous phase of life, from birth to death. He also affirmed that the reason of testing is to measure things subjectively. These tools are considered very essential in evaluating one's learning ability. He also identified that NCLB act emphasize on providing equal education and all students read and study mathematics at grade level.
